In honor of Direct Support Professional Recognition Week (September 13-19, 2026), we are excited to take this opportunity to recognize DSPs from our Residential and Community Day Services programs – the heart and soul of supports for people with disabilities.
Redella Burnett has been with Ada S. McKinley for 9 years. She currently serves as a DSP Training Counselor and is being featured for her “teamwork” in serving people with intellectual and developmental disabilities.

What is the most rewarding part of your job?
“The relationship that has been built with the individuals where they feel safe and secure with talking to you about situations that come about in their lives. Not to mention the smiles on their faces when you help them to accomplish a goal. It’s a blessing to work with the individuals served.”
What is something that you’ve learned while working as a DSP?
“I’ve learned love, patience, and tolerance because it can be challenging.”
What is one piece of advice would you give to a person who is new to the field?
“Get to know and understand the people you serve. Learn your position and be the best person you can be working with others.”
What makes you proud to work with Ada S. McKinley?
“Being able to work with individuals with disabilities and learning from the experience. I’m learning just like they are.”
What is one fun fact about yourself?
“I love singing and dancing and I’m not good at either of them. I have a great sense of humor.”
