People we serve with developmental and intellectual disabilities put on a live stage production at the Black Ensemble Theater entitled Langston Hughes & Friends – Ada S. McKinley’s Aztlan Super Stars. They worked diligently for two months, practicing and memorizing lines, establishing performance chemistry, and learning life skills. Through its Theater for Special Women and Men programs, the Black Ensemble Theatre works to promote the cognitive, socialization and communication skills of developmentally and physically challenged people. The programs are designed to assist participants in recognizing their value and strengths as human beings.
