Ada S. McKinley has been proud to serve as the lead nonprofit and coordinator for this wonderful holiday effort that brings joy to thousands of families during the holiday season. The Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw, the largest Coast Guard ship on the Great Lakes, returned to Navy Pier to deliver 1,200 live trees as part of the annual Christmas Tree Ship Ceremony. Volunteers unloaded the trees onto trucks for distribution to families throughout the city in time for the holidays. While the Chicago’s Christmas Ship Ceremony was closed to the public in 2020 due to COVID-19 restrictions, the 2021 event was open to the general public. Collaborators for this 22-year tradition include the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mackinaw and Crew, Chicago Christmas Ship Committee, Chicago Marine Heritage Society, and Ada S. McKinley Community Services.
